Museum Policies

Help us protect our exhibits and the museum experience for all.

Please do not touch exhibits, except those specifically designed to be touched.

Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult (18 years or older) at all times during their visit. Texas Science & Natural History Museum and The University of Texas at Austin do not assume custodial responsibility for minors; responsibility remains with parents, guardians or designated chaperones.

Texas Science & Natural History Museum does not allow organized classes, performances or events unless they are part of official museum programming or have received prior written approval. UT Austin classes are welcome, but must be scheduled in advance through our reservation system. Private or external groups may host classes, performances or events only if arranged as a facility rental beforehand. For more information or to request rental information, please contact our Events team at TMMEvents@austin.utexas.edu.

Organized birthday parties are not allowed in the museum or on the museum grounds unless pre-reserved through Group Visits.

Store any large bags, backpacks and over-sized items in our free lockers near the admissions desk.

Food and drinks (other than water) are not allowed inside the museum. Visitors are welcome to step outside to enjoy snacks or lunch on our grassy lawn, covered patio or picnic tables—and then return to continue exploring. You may also store food and drink items in our free lockers during your visit.

Only guide dogs and other service animals are allowed inside the museum in accordance with the University Service Animal Policy.

Visitors are welcome to take casual photos and videos unless otherwise indicated by museum staff or signs. Photography and filming are permitted for personal, non-commercial use only and must be conducted without disruption to museum operations and may not limit accessibility of exhibitions, entrances/exits, doorways and high-traffic areas. For more info, please see our Photography/Video Guidelines.

Write or sketch with pencils only. No pens or markers allowed.
