Fossil Painting Workshop

Learn how to paint realistic fossil casts in a special workshop led by fossil preparator Erika Tandy from Texas Vertebrate Paleontology Collections. Attendees will learn about the types of casts found in paleontology collections, how to prepare a cast for painting, what tools and paints work best, and techniques for producing realistic fossil textures and colors. All supplies will be provided, and participants may take home their painted fossil cast. Workshop and supplies are included with regular museum admission. Advance registration is required.

Please note:

  • This workshop is limited to 16 participants, ages 12 and up.
  • Minors must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered for the workshop.
  • We recommend arriving by 1:50 p.m. to check in.
  • Registered participants who have not arrived by 2 p.m. will forfeit their workshop spot to someone on the in-person waitlist.
  • A photo release and health and safety waiver are required during registration.
