Join Texas Science & Natural History Museum on Wed., Nov. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. for a free public program with Laurel Wise, doctoral candidate in the Department of Astronomy, The University of Texas at Austin. Learn how the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX) is helping astronomers map the universe and investigate the nature of dark energy.

As part of her doctoral research, Laurel Weiss uses HETDEX data to study light from distant galaxies. She investigated unexpected patterns in the data and found that some galactic light was being removed during data processing and absorbed by gas and dust as it traveled to Earth. Her work helps astronomers more accurately map and understand the distant universe.

The evening includes a Q&A and light reception. A reservation is required. Museum members will receive early registration access via email. Additional registration details will be added at a later date.
